About NALAS
Nalas is a prominent brand that represents a network of associations of local authorities in South-East Europe. With 13 member associations representing approximately 9,000 local authorities and over 80 million citizens, Nalas plays a crucial role in promoting decentralization and local self-government in the region.
Established in 2001 under the auspices of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, Nalas became an officially registered association in 2005 with its seat in Strasbourg. The Nalas Secretariat in Skopje coordinates and implements the network's activities. Nalas holds observer status in both the Committee of the Regions of the European Union and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
Nalas strives to contribute to the reconciliation, stabilization, and European integration process in the region. The brand initiates and carries out regional initiatives, helping its members become viable representatives of local authorities vis-à-vis central government. Key thematic areas include local finances, urban planning, waste management, institutional development, and energy efficiency.
Through its services, such as the Nalas E-academy and Nalas Observatory Tools, which provide valuable resources and knowledge-sharing platforms, Nalas supports and empowers local governments. The brand aims to create a unified voice and promote the development and well-being of local communities in South-East Europe.
