Nalgona Positive

Gloria Lucas is the powerhouse driving force behind Nalgona Positivity Pride (NPP). Born in San Diego, California, she spent her childhood in Riverside, surrounded by her Mexican-immigrant family. Gloria's roots can be traced back to the Nahua people and indigenous peoples from Michoacan and Jalisco.

Despite the religious tug-of-war between her mother's devotion as a Jehovah's Witness and her father's ties to Catholicism, Gloria remained faithful to the JW community until her teenage years. It was during her door-to-door experiences as a JW that she discovered a passion for entrepreneurship and salesmanship. Growing up, the library became her sanctuary, fueling her love for books and continuous learning.

Gloria's own battles with mental health, triggered by her upbringing, led her to find solace in feminism and anarchist organizing. Through her activism, she came to realize the intersectional connections between eating disorders and systemic oppression. In 2014, she founded NPP, a platform for BIPOC representation and social justice in the eating disorder community.

From a personal Instagram page, NPP has grown into a mega-platform, with Gloria turning it into a successful business and organization. Despite being a community college drop-out, Gloria's work has made a significant impact in the eating disorder and mental health world. She is a well-regarded public speaker and has shared her insights at prestigious institutions and conferences.

Gloria's dedication to creating a new table rather than just having a place at the table sets her apart. Not only is she a leader in her field, but she also has a soft spot for cats and a love for 1960s home decor.
