About NALSA
NALSA, or the National Legal Services Authority, is an organization dedicated to providing free legal services to the weaker sections of society and promoting an inclusive legal system. They aim to ensure that justice is accessible to all and organize Lok Adalats for the amicable settlement of disputes. The Chief Justice of India serves as the Patron-in-Chief of NALSA, and the organization is based at the Supreme Court of India in New Delhi.
NALSA operates through various levels of authority, including State Legal Services Authorities and District Legal Services Authorities, which implement legal services programs at the state and district levels, respectively. Their services include legal aid, Lok Adalats, mediation, legal awareness and literacy programs, victim compensation, and social action litigation. With an extensive history rooted in the legal aid movement in India, NALSA strives to fulfill the constitutional pledge of equal justice for the poor, downtrodden, and weaker sections of society.
They work towards creating an inclusive legal system that provides free legal aid to those in need, ensuring that no citizen is denied the opportunity for justice due to economic or other disabilities
