Nanaimo Unique Kids

Nanaimo Unique Kids Organization (NUKO) is a Nanaimo-based organization supporting children and youth with neurodiverse needs, with families coming from across Vancouver Island. Its mission is to foster personal, social, and life skills in a distinctive learning environment, helping young people prepare to thrive in their community. NUKO emphasizes inclusion, individual needs, small class sizes, supportive staff-to-student ratios, and an approach designed to help each child develop skills and reach personal goals.

NUKO offers center-based services including therapeutic education, behavior consultation, and behavior intervention. Its team works collaboratively with families and outside professionals to support students’ learning and development. Speech-language, occupational, music, and physiotherapy services may also be accessed at the center through professionals who work with NUKO students. The organization’s individualized approach aims to support educational progress, communication, independence, social skills, and everyday functioning. Families and collaborating practitioners describe a caring, coordinated environment where students are encouraged to advocate for themselves, ask for help, and participate in learning at a pace suited to their needs.
