About NAR
The National Association of Rocketry (NAR) is a premier non-profit organization focused on fostering consumer safety, promoting youth education, and advancing technology in the field of spacemodeling (sport rocketry) in the United States. With its foundation dating back to 1957, the NAR is not only the oldest but also the largest spacemodeling organization in the world, boasting over 8,000 members and around 220 affiliated clubs across the nation. The NAR supports and encourages safe consumer sport rocket flying, catering to a wide range of enthusiasts, from youth groups using small model rockets to serious adult hobbyists launching large high power rockets.
As a recognized national authority, the NAR is responsible for safety certification of consumer rocket motors and user certification of high-power rocket fliers. In fact, its safety codes for the hobby are widely accepted by manufacturers and public safety officials nationwide. In addition to safety oversight, the NAR offers a plethora of services to its members, including educational programs, national and local competitions, grants to teachers, scholarships for student members, flight performance record recognition, liability insurance, and publication of technical literature.
The NAR also publishes the highly regarded bimonthly color magazine, Sport Rocketry, which is circulated among NAR members, libraries, and newsstands across the country. Furthermore, the NAR extends its influence beyond recreational rocketry by representing the United States in the Federation Aeronautique Internationale World Spacemodeling Championships international program. Additionally, through its partnership with the Aerospace Industries Association, the NAR co-sponsors the renowned Team America Rocketry Challenge, which attracts thousands of 7th to 12th graders from all over the nation.
Overall, the National Association of Rocketry is a pioneering organization that not only upholds safety standards but also plays a vital role in driving innovation and inspiring the next generation of aerospace enthusiasts
