Narrenzunft Furtwangen e.V.

Narrenzunft Furtwangen is a traditional carnival association based in Furtwangen, in Germany’s Black Forest. Founded in 1926 by several hundred local residents, it is among the long-established guilds in the Association of Swabian-Alemannic Carnival Guilds. The organization preserves and celebrates Fasnet, the region’s distinctive carnival traditions, bringing the town to life with processions, music, costumes and customs.

Its characteristic figures include Spättle, Stadthexe, Hanseli, Fuhrkigili and Alte Jungfere. Their detailed masks and handmade costumes, together with bronze bells and the crack of Fuhrkigili whips, create a vivid spectacle, often against a snowy winter backdrop. The guild’s departments prepare and organize celebrations throughout the year, including the major Sunday procession and other Fasnet events.

Narrenzunft Furtwangen also shares information about its history, figures, songs and customs, and welcomes new members. Its Furtwanger Narrenblatt is a humorous annual publication inviting contributions. A book about Furtwangen Fasnet is available through local bookshops and directly from the guild.
