The North Atlantic Right Whale Consortium (NARWC) is a collaborative network dedicated to the conservation and recovery of the North Atlantic right whale. Founded in 1986 as a data-sharing group, it has grown to include more than 200 members representing research and conservation organizations, shipping and fishing industries, technical experts, government agencies, and state and provincial authorities in the United States and Canada. The Consortium is internationally recognized and has been identified as a model for developing similar species-focused partnerships.
NARWC supports research and conservation through resources including photo-identification, sightings, and identification databases, the North Atlantic Right Whale Catalog, reports, and WhaleMap. It provides information on accessing and submitting data, and invites the public to report right whale sightings, dead whales, and other anthropogenic events. The organization also shares anthropogenic event case studies and educational activities. Its annual meeting brings participants together through presentations, workshops, and related events. Visitors can find meeting details, registration information, agendas, and materials for presenters, as well as subscribe to the newsletter for updates on Consortium activities and programs.
