The National Pony Express Association (NPEA) is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to preserving the legacy and history of the Pony Express National Historic Trail. Established in the 1960s by passionate horse enthusiasts, the NPEA became formally organized in 1977 and has since played a pivotal role in re-establishing and marking the original Pony Express route from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California.
Each June, the association honors this historic legacy through an Annual Re-Ride, where riders carry mail along the trail, alternating directions each year. NPEA fosters community engagement and education by organizing conventions and various events throughout the year, including historical reenactments and celebrations at significant sites. Based in Pollock Pines, California, the organization serves as a valuable resource for history aficionados, offering maps, brochures, and lesson plans related to the Pony Express.
Join the NPEA to support the preservation of this remarkable piece of American history while participating in a unique and spirited tradition
