About Great British Racing
National Racehorse Week is a nationwide annual celebration that invites the public to discover the lives and care of racehorses. The event opens the doors of racing yards, stud farms, and retraining and aftercare centres across Britain, offering visitors a first-hand look at how horses are cared for and prepared. Founded from an idea by trainer Richard Phillips in 2019, the initiative brings together support from across the racing industry and aims to connect people and families with racehorses while sharing insight into their daily lives and the work of the people who look after them.
Activities vary by venue and may include meeting current and retired racehorses, guided yard tours, visits to the gallops, schooling demonstrations, and demonstrations of veterinary, farrier, physiotherapy, and other equine care. Visitors may also explore tack and feed rooms, see equine swimming pools or treadmills, meet foals, and watch a horse parade. National Racehorse Week shares event information and updates through its website and newsletter, helping people learn about future celebrations and participating venues.
