National Rock Garden

The National Rock Garden is an Australian organisation dedicated to celebrating the country’s geological heritage. Located in a parkland setting at the National Arboretum Canberra, it presents a permanent collection of rocks and minerals that illustrate the diversity of materials shaping Australia’s landscapes, heritage and prosperity. The garden uses its displays to tell the story of the continent and its people, and offers visitors ways to explore geology through themed collections, self-guided tours and a treasure hunt.

Its resources include educational materials and information about the International Geologic Time Scale, alongside features on rocks, minerals and the garden’s future development. The organisation also shares articles and a twice-yearly newsletter, and invites people to support its work through donations, sponsorship, bequests and membership as Friends of the National Rock Garden. Visitors can learn about the collection, take part in tours and discover how geological features connect with Australian history and place.

The garden acknowledges Traditional Owners and Custodians across Australia and recognises their continuing connections to Country, lands, waters and communities
