Native Fish

Native Fish Australia (NFA) is a dedicated volunteer organization focused on the well-being of Australia’s native freshwater fish and their ecosystems. Established by anglers, NFA transcends traditional fishing clubs by promoting responsible and sustainable fishing practices among its members. The organization operates through various branches nationwide, each independently run yet united under the National NFA Constitution.

NFA's initiatives include running a native fish hatchery in Victoria, which plays a crucial role in breeding endangered species like the trout cod as part of recovery efforts. The organization also engages in impactful projects, such as constructing fishways to enhance fish passage in local waterways, and organizes scientific events like the "Basscatch" competitions to monitor Australian bass populations.

Members can participate in diverse activities ranging from surveys and educational displays to social events and field trips. Whether you're an avid angler or simply passionate about aquatic conservation, NFA welcomes all who seek to support and preserve Australia's rich aquatic heritage.
