In the Southwest, where sun is abundant, solar energy is a viable solution to address energy disparities that exist on Navajo and Hopi lands. Approximately 15,000 homes do not have access to reliable electricity and Native Renewables Inc. (NRI) are changing that by providing off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to address the urgent energy needs for remote households through their Hozho Homes program.

Native Renewables Inc. (NRI) works with Hopi and Diné (Navajo) families and communities to expand access to solar energy and build Indigenous-led energy knowledge and solutions. Serving communities across the Navajo and Hopi Nations, the organization addresses the needs of households without reliable electricity, particularly in remote areas. Through its Hozho Homes Program, NRI provides off-grid solar photovoltaic systems with battery storage to families, helping them gain access to power and ownership of their household energy infrastructure. These systems can also strengthen resilience to climate-related disruptions.
Alongside installations, Native Renewables offers solar education, virtual training, workforce development, maintenance and support, and resources for communities. Its in-house workforce program helps develop Indigenous solar technicians and community leaders; the organization reports that one in three staff members graduated from the program. NRI also shares installation information through a map and invites eligible residential off-grid solar partnership requests for projects deployable in Hopi and Navajo communities. Donations support solar projects for families without electricity and educational opportunities for Indigenous communities.
