About Nativewomenscentre
The Hamilton Native Women's Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing safe and emergency shelter for women of all ages and backgrounds. They offer assistance to Indigenous families in the Hamilton area, advocating on their behalf and establishing programs and services to meet their needs. The centre was founded in 1976 by the Hamilton-Wentworth Chapter of Native Women Incorporated and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
As a chapter of the Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA), they also serve as a satellite location for the (Native) Healthy Babies Healthy Children Program. The centre's programming and services are funded in part by various government ministries, the City of Hamilton, and donations from community members and service groups. By supporting the centre, you are helping empower Indigenous families and creating a safer community for all.
