Natural Land Institute

Natural Land Institute is a well-established brand in the field of land conservation and preservation. For over 65 years, they have been dedicated to conserving and protecting the natural diversity of northern Illinois. As one of the oldest private conservation groups in the Midwest, they have successfully protected, managed, and restored over 18,000 acres of land, including prairies, forests, wetlands, and river corridors.

The Natural Land Institute operates as a regional land trust, accepting donations of properties, purchasing lands, and helping landowners establish legal agreements to limit harmful use and development. Their mission is to create an enduring legacy of natural land in northern Illinois for people, plants, and animals. The institute offers various programs that focus on acquiring and protecting natural areas, managing and restoring native species, conducting research, disseminating information, and developing sound public policies and plans.

They also own and manage 25 preserves and hold conservation easements on additional acres of land. By actively preserving and stewarding the land, Natural Land Institute plays a crucial role in mitigating the effects of climate change, providing clean air, water, and healthy soils. Their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion ensures that everyone's voices are heard and respected in their conservation efforts.

As a member-supported nonprofit organization, Natural Land Institute relies on the support and engagement of the community. They offer membership and volunteer opportunities, as well as opportunities for individuals to donate or make bequest gifts. Join them in their mission to preserve and protect the natural systems that sustain all life on Earth
