About National Water and Electricity Company Limited
NAWEC, the Gambia National Water & Electric Company, is a national utility serving communities across The Gambia. Established in 1996, it provides electricity, drinking water and sewerage services, supporting more than two million people. Its stated mission is to deliver these essential services safely, efficiently, affordably and with environmental responsibility.
NAWEC’s electricity operations include power generation, high-voltage transmission and distribution to homes, businesses and communities in the Greater Banjul Area and regional centres. The company offers prepaid and conventional metering, industrial and domestic connections, and rural electrification programmes, drawing on thermal and renewable generation sources. Its water services cover production and distribution of treated drinking water through boreholes, treatment facilities and an expanding pipeline network, alongside water-quality monitoring. Sewerage services include wastewater collection, treatment and safe disposal.
Customers can use online electricity and water portals to view bills, track consumption and manage accounts, and access payment options, service information and support. NAWEC also publishes tariffs, annual reports, strategic plans, project updates, tenders and career opportunities.
