About National Council on Disability
NCD. gov is an independent federal agency dedicated to advising the President, Congress, and other federal agencies on policies, programs, practices, and procedures that impact individuals with disabilities. Comprising a team of Presidential and Congressional appointees, as well as an Executive Director and a full-time professional staff, NCD operates with the mission to be a trusted advisor.
Their role includes convening stakeholders to gather timely input, analyzing data, engaging in current debates, identifying solutions, and providing tools for effective implementation. With a proud history that dates back to its establishment as a small advisory council in 1978, NCD has been instrumental in shaping disability policies. They recommended the enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1986 and have since continued to analyze the needs of people with disabilities, craft policy solutions, and advise key decision-makers.
