About NC Department of Insurance
The North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) is dedicated to protecting the interests of North Carolinians by regulating the insurance industry and promoting fire safety. Led by Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey, NCDOI offers a range of products and services to assist consumers. If you have any insurance-related questions, NCDOI has trained experts who can provide guidance on health, life, Medicare, homeowners, auto, disability, long-term care, dental, vision, and other coverage types.
They can help you understand your insurance policy, file complaints or appeals, identify enrollment opportunities, and locate lost life insurance policies. NCDOI also regulates the insurance industry by licensing insurance agents, adjusters, bail bondsmen, and more, and investigates insurance fraud. In addition to its insurance-related duties, NCDOI houses the Office of State Fire Marshal, responsible for training fire and rescue personnel, improving building codes, and ensuring fire safety in North Carolina.
