The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) is a South African non-profit organisation established in 1939 to advance the rights, inclusion and equitable opportunities of persons with disabilities. Through advocacy, policy engagement and public awareness, it works to connect national commitments with people’s lived experiences and to promote accessibility and economic participation.
NCPD offers disability equity training, workplace inclusion advice, universal design audits and support for employment, learnerships and entrepreneurship. Its programmes also address community support, assistive devices, accessible transport and eco-tourism. Specialised initiatives include Hearing Loss Matters, which provides information, training and support for people with hearing loss and their communities, and a gender-based violence programme that offers practical support and helps equip police officers to respond.
The organisation leads national campaigns including Casual Day, an awareness and fundraising initiative supporting disability-sector organisations, and Nappy Run, an annual awareness and nappy donation drive. Its Vava iYouth project promotes youth representation, access to assistive devices and employment preparation and placement.
