Nearby Chat is a free, browser-based platform for anonymous conversations with people nearby or with Gemini AI. Designed for local connections, it places users in a city chat room based on browser location and offers an interactive map for discovering other active users. People can join group discussions or start private, end-to-end encrypted chats without creating an account or providing an email address or phone number. Users choose a nickname, and others see only an approximate distance rather than exact GPS coordinates.

The service works on modern phones, tablets, and computers without an app download, and is available worldwide with chat rooms in cities such as New York, London, Tokyo, and Toronto. An Android APK is available, while iOS availability is described as forthcoming. Nearby Chat is free, with no subscriptions, premium tier, or in-app purchases; the site says it is funded by its founders rather than advertising or selling user data. It also highlights active moderation, community guidelines, safety resources, and local features including city feeds, confessions, and guides.
