Neighbors of the Northwest Branch

Neighbors of the Northwest Branch is a community watershed group working to improve the health of the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, Maryland. The organization brings neighbors together to care for local waterways and the surrounding environment through hands-on projects, education, and advocacy.

Its activities include water quality monitoring, community cleanups, and the removal of invasive plants, alongside efforts to support native plants. Residents can join organized volunteer events or arrange a cleanup in their area with the group’s help. Educational and outreach activities share information about the watershed, while the group’s website features maps and wildlife observations, including insect, amphibian, reptile, and other animal sightings.

Neighbors of the Northwest Branch also shares news, events, volunteer opportunities, and annual updates on its work. Community members can participate by volunteering, becoming members, or donating. Membership dues are $15 per year, with a volunteer option, and additional contributions are welcomed to support the organization’s watershed programs.
