About NESP Marine Hub
NESP Marine Hub is a brand that focuses on marine biodiversity research and environmental conservation. As part of the National Environmental Science Program (NESP), funded by the Australian Government, their primary goal is to provide scientifically-based information for evidence-based decision-making concerning marine species, marine protected areas, and the preservation of the marine environment. The Marine Biodiversity Hub collaborates with 10 research partners and is hosted by the University of Tasmania.
They have a dedicated steering committee that meets twice a year to review research progress and ensure alignment with governmental priorities. Additionally, a research leadership team meets monthly to plan and review ongoing research projects. The Hub also has various committees, including a research user committee, which advises on future research priorities, and a research partners committee, which reviews progress and proposes new ideas.
To further their mission, the Marine Biodiversity Hub has received funding from programs such as the National Environmental Science Program (NESP) and the Commonwealth Environment Research Facilities (CERF). Their past and current projects have contributed to national decision-making, the development of marine protected areas, and the understanding of marine biodiversity. Partnering with renowned institutions like the Australian Institute of Marine Science, Charles Darwin University, CSIRO, Geoscience Australia, and the Integrated Marine Observing System, NESP Marine Hub utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to study marine systems, deliver relevant and impactful research, and support government and industry in making informed decisions for the conservation of Australia's marine environment.
