About Network Rail
Network Rail is the organisation responsible for Britain’s railway infrastructure, working to keep the network safe, reliable and accessible for passengers and freight. Its work spans railway tracks, signalling, bridges, tunnels, stations, earthworks and communications systems, alongside maintenance, asset management and major upgrades. The organisation operates across regions and routes throughout England, Scotland and Wales, and works with train companies, communities, suppliers and other rail industry partners.
Network Rail plans and delivers engineering work and improvement projects, including track renewals, electrification, station upgrades and initiatives to improve safety, reliability and accessibility. It also supports rail freight, manages property and commercial opportunities, and offers guidance and information for passengers, railway neighbours, operators and third-party investors. Its research, development and technology work includes the Digital Railway and rail innovation programmes.
The Network Rail media centre provides journalists, bloggers and other media professionals with news, press releases, photographs, videos and factsheets. The press team can also help arrange interviews, filming and photography, supporting accurate coverage of railway developments and issues across the network.
