Netzwerk Igel Wuppertal

Netzwerk Igel Wuppertal e.V. is a nonprofit association dedicated to helping hedgehogs in need and protecting their place in the wild. Since 2006, its hedgehog station in Wuppertal-Elberfeld has provided injured, sick and orphaned hedgehogs with shelter and attentive care. Volunteers offer around-the-clock support, including food, accommodation and medical care, with the goal of returning animals to healthy lives in their natural environment.

The association also advises people who find hedgehogs, helping them assess whether an animal needs assistance and what steps to take. Its website shares information about hedgehog behaviour, nutrition, breeding, hibernation and common misconceptions, alongside guidance on wildlife-friendly gardens and nature conservation. Visitors can learn about volunteering at the station, including through the Federal Volunteer Service, or support the work through membership, sponsorships, donations and animal sponsorships.

Funded entirely by donations, sponsorships and volunteer commitment, Netzwerk Igel Wuppertal e.V. also raises awareness of threats to hedgehogs and encourages practical ways to protect them. Its mission is to help each rescued hedgehog return to the wild.
