About NeuConnect
NeuConnect is an energy infrastructure project developing the first direct electricity connection between Germany and Great Britain. Its interconnector will link two of Europe’s largest energy markets through approximately 725 kilometres of land and subsea cables, creating an “invisible highway” for power. Once operational, the link is designed to transfer up to 1.4 gigawatts of electricity in either direction, helping strengthen security of supply and support the integration of renewable energy across both countries.
The project is expected to contribute to a more flexible and efficient energy system, with renewable integration forecast to reduce carbon emissions by 13 million tonnes of CO₂ over 25 years. NeuConnect also represents £2.4 billion (€2.8 billion) in private investment in UK and German energy infrastructure, and is intended to increase market choice and competition, potentially benefiting consumers and businesses.
Construction includes converter stations and extensive onshore and offshore cabling, with testing and commissioning planned before operations begin in 2028. NeuConnect also provides project updates and community engagement, including a dedicated team for public enquiries.
