New Craftsman Gallery is a longstanding art and craft gallery in St Ives, Cornwall, founded in 1965 by potter Janet Leach and Mary “Boots” Redgrave. Now expanded and renovated under owner and director Ylenia Haase, it is regarded as an important part of Cornwall’s artistic history and has supported the region’s creative community for more than six decades.
The gallery presents modern and contemporary art and craft across five light-filled exhibition spaces in a historic building near the Barbara Hepworth Museum. Its early reputation was built on studio ceramics by artists including Lucie Rie, Hans Coper, Shoji Hamada and Bernard Leach. It later broadened its programme to include painting, supporting the early careers of St Ives artists such as Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Peter Lanyon, Patrick Heron and Bryan Wynter.
Today, exhibitions feature work by painters, ceramicists, jewellers and other makers, with changing presentations of contemporary practice. Visitors can also explore the gallery virtually. New Craftsman Gallery offers national and international packing and shipping for artworks, with details available by enquiry.
