New Federal Theatre (NFT) is a New York-based theater company dedicated to bringing the stories of Black communities, people of color, and women to the stage. Founded in 1970, it has produced more than 400 plays and spent 56 years working to integrate underrepresented artists into mainstream American theater. Its productions showcase bold, thought-provoking writing for multicultural audiences, with a focus on artistic excellence, social justice, and stories that invite audiences to see and hear diverse voices.
Alongside its productions, NFT supports artists through professional training and creative development. Its acting workshops cover voice, movement, emotions, scene study, and monologues, while its playwriting courses range from short-play fundamentals to developing a full-length work. The NFT Playwriting Lab and Solo Performance Collective offer further opportunities for emerging writers and performers, including mentorship and master lessons. Wonderment & Wisdom brings theatre-makers of different generations together to share experiences and stories. Audiences can attend shows, follow upcoming events, and support the organization through donations, volunteering, and other giving programs.
