Newhaven Mencap, also known as Newhaven, Lewes & District Mencap, is an independent local charity supporting people with learning disabilities and their families and carers. Established in 1965, it serves Newhaven, Lewes, Seaford, Peacehaven and nearby communities. The charity focuses on friendship, inclusion and opportunity, helping people build confidence, enjoy activities and feel connected to their local community.
Its regular Friday Night Social Club at Riverside Hall offers members a welcoming place to socialise, enjoy music and entertainment, and take part in activities and events. Newhaven Mencap also provides membership, Easy Read information and introductory resources about learning disabilities, associated conditions, communication, health and support needs. Riverside Hall is available to hire for parties, meetings, community groups and local events, while its sensory room can be booked by individuals, families and carers.
People can support the charity through donations, volunteering and fundraising, including contributions to its minibus appeal. The organisation also offers community advertising at Riverside Hall and an online space for approved members to connect and share ideas
