About New Netherland Institute
The New Netherland Institute (NNI) is a vital non-profit organization dedicated to illuminating America's Dutch heritage. Established in 1986 as a response to the need for preserving and promoting Dutch colonial history, NNI has supported the transcription, translation, and publication of 17th-century records from the New York State Archives, showcasing the rich legacy of the Dutch West India Company and its New World colonies. In partnership with the New York State Office of Cultural Education, NNI operates the New Netherland Research Center (NNRC), offering extensive resources for students, educators, and researchers interested in the Dutch era.
