New Orleans Light Academy is an inclusive training organization founded by Star Wars fans to bring martial arts and theatrical combat to a nontraditional audience. Its sessions combine sword technique, mindfulness, and playful movement, with a focus on control and the safe use of prop lightsabers. The academy aims to give participants a distinctive experience that balances practical skills with theatrical performance and enjoyment.
The academy offers training in combat styles and hosts workshops, including lightsaber workshops. Its programming is designed for people interested in exploring movement and staged combat in a welcoming environment. The organization states that it accepts everyone and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, immigration status, or planetary origin. Gift cards are also available, and visitors can explore the academy’s gallery and videos to learn more about its activities. New Orleans Light Academy shares its guiding idea as “Achieving balance through light,” reflecting its blend of technique, mindfulness, and fun.
