About Newport Model Sailing Club
Newport Model Sailing Club (NMSC) is a 501(c)(7) nonprofit organization based in Newport, Rhode Island, bringing together people interested in model sailboat racing. The club races DragonFlite 95 (DF95) and International One Meter (IOM) boats, and welcomes everyone to take part.
NMSC holds seasonal races at local waterfront venues. During winter, racing is scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays off the main pier at Sail Newport, weather permitting, with a 9:00 a.m. report time and racing from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Summer racing takes place on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. at the New York Yacht Club and on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. at Sail Newport.
The club also shares news, race results, resources, and information about its boatyard, and hosts championship regattas. Recent highlights include the 2025 DF95 National Championship win by Brad Read, alongside listed DF95 and IOM Region 1 championship events. Those interested can join NMSC and support activities such as scoring, regattas, and equipment.
