NextReef Ecosystems is a Barcelona-based BlueTech company focused on restoring marine ecosystems and supporting ocean life. A spin-off from IQS Barcelona, it combines applied science, engineering and technological innovation to develop eco-engineered marine infrastructure and assess natural capital. Its approach draws inspiration from nature, using insights into habitat structure, complexity and materials to inform biomimetic solutions designed to support habitat regeneration and deliver lasting benefits in marine environments.
The company’s technologies include OceanMetrics, BioSkins, BioAnchors and EcoMattresses. Its services span research, development and innovation; bespoke projects grounded in marine science; the manufacture and installation of scalable marine structures; and advanced monitoring and laboratory analysis using sensors, field data and AI-driven insights. These capabilities are intended to connect technical performance and operational needs with ecological considerations across marine activities. NextReef develops both nature-inspired construction technologies and digital tools for monitoring and assessment, with ecological and engineering principles integrated into its design and manufacturing processes.
