About Nexus
Nexus is the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive, working on behalf of the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority to create and manage integrated public transport networks across the Tyne and Wear region of North East England. Operating under the tagline For everyone going places, Nexus oversees three core transport modes: the Tyne and Wear Metro — an iconic rapid light rail system carrying around 30 million passengers a year across 60 stations, with trains running up to every six minutes at peak times; the regional bus network, encompassing performance monitoring, route funding, and management of bus stations across the region; and the Shields Ferry, a frequent cross-Tyne service completing the crossing in just seven minutes and forming part of National Cycle Route 1. Looking ahead, Nexus is currently delivering several major capital projects including a £400 million Metro signalling upgrade, a new Metro fleet, a 13km Metro extension to Washington, a new North Shields ferry landing, and a smart ticketing rollout — all aimed at making public transport great for the region's environment, economy, and communities for decades to come
