Neighboring Food Co-op Association (NFCA) is a cooperative federation that brings together over 40 food co-ops and startup initiatives in the Northeast. With a shared vision of a thriving cooperative economy, they are committed to building a healthy, just, and sustainable regional food system and a vibrant community of cooperative enterprises. NFCA's member co-ops are member-owned and democratically governed grocery stores that range in size, from large multiple storefront retailers to smaller markets.

Many of these co-ops have been in operation for over 30 years, some even for over 80 years. Despite the challenges of the current economy, the NFCA's member co-ops are expanding, and new stores have been opening in recent years. These food co-ops prioritize local products, organic agriculture, and Fair Trade, contributing to more sustainable food systems.

With their collective impact, these co-ops have generated revenue, contributed to community organizations, operated retail locations, employed people (many of whom are also co-op members), and sold a significant amount of local products. NFCA collaborates with various organizations and networks, such as the Northeast Organic Farming Association and the New England Farmers Union, to strengthen the regional food system and promote co-operative enterprise.
