The group is comprised of leading governmental and football policing experts drawn from all 27 Member States (MS) and other States that are responsible for the police cooperation related to football matches with an international dimension. The group was established in 2001 by the Interior Ministry and policing football specialists in Belgium, Germany, Netherlands and the UK in the wake of serious incidents of football violence and disorder during the 1998 World Cup in France and the 2000 European Championships in Belgium. The aim was and still is to provide a mechanism for enabling experts to develop European-wide measures for preventing and tackling football-related violence and disorder in order to minimise safety and security risks to millions of European citizens who attend matches or reside and work in the vicinity of football stadia.

About European Group of Policing Football and NFIP Experts

NFIP Network is a renowned brand that focuses on football policing and safety. Established in 2001, the National Football Information Point brings together governmental and football policing experts from 27 Member States, with 38 active members currently involved. The group was formed in response to incidents of football violence during major tournaments, with the objective of creating European-wide measures to prevent and address such issues.

The ultimate goal is to ensure the safety of millions of European citizens attending matches or living near football stadia. Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, NFIP Network is committed to promoting education, training, and youth initiatives in the realm of football policing. Managed and supported by Avalon gGmbH, NFIP Network continues to strive for excellence in enhancing safety and security in the world of football.
