Its database indexes 859,419 organisations across 18 countries and brings together court judgments, regulator actions, government registries, organisations’ own filings, and published journalism. Visitors can search organisations, browse documented cases and regulatory actions, explore country and topic pages, and review alerts that have been assessed by editors.

The site highlights court-documented fraud timelines, cross-country regulatory actions, and investigations into cases where a need or impact presented to donors may not have existed as described. Its scoring system starts each organisation at 100 and deducts points for sourced, documented red flags; journalism alone cannot produce a red score. NGO Red Flags stresses that a flag is not an accusation, a score does not assess an organisation’s mission or effectiveness, and missing information is not evidence of wrongdoing.

The project publishes its methodology and corrections policy, welcomes corrections, accepts no payment from rated organisations, and is not affiliated with the charities, governments, or watchdogs it covers
