About CSIR-NGRI Offl. A
CSIR–National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR-NGRI) is a research institution under India’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, within the Ministry of Science and Technology. Based in Hyderabad, it conducts geophysical and earth-science research to improve understanding of the Earth and its resources. Its research spans seismology, geochemistry, geochronology, geomagnetism, gravity and magnetics, geodesy, rock mechanics, planetary sciences, and geophysical instrumentation.
Key programmes address geohazards, the structure and evolution of the Indian Shield, groundwater, hydrocarbons, minerals, geothermal energy, critical minerals, and carbon capture, utilization and storage. The institute also develops and applies computational, airborne, electrical, magnetic, seismic, and other geophysical methods. CSIR-NGRI shares research through papers, newsletters, reports, brochures, and public outreach, and collaborates with government bodies through initiatives and memoranda of understanding.
