NHS Supporters is an independent group of researchers and journalists dedicated to protecting and promoting a comprehensive National Health Service (NHS). Our mission is to ensure that everyone has fair access to high-quality healthcare. We support the NHS and its staff through evidence-based campaigns and policy discussions.
As a voluntary organization, we are not aligned with any political party. Our funding comes from health professionals, the general public, grant-making trusts, and trade unions. We work tirelessly to increase public awareness about the NHS, as we believe that it is crucial to its protection and improvement.
Through research, conversations with the public and NHS staff, and media communication, we collect and disseminate evidence about the state of the NHS. We also design websites, write articles, and initiate community discussions to engage NHS supporters and provide them with accurate information. Moreover, we develop campaigns to involve the public in initiatives to enhance access to healthcare and reform its organization.
Additionally, we actively collaborate with local communities, as their intervention can safeguard or enhance NHS services. By supporting locals in building community campaigns, we aim to influence the future of the NHS positively. At NHS Supporters, we believe that high-quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial means.
The NHS should offer comprehensive care and reach all patients nationally. Despite modern pressures and expectations, we remain steadfast in our belief that these goals are achievable. We advocate for a publicly driven NHS that prioritizes patient care over financial gains.
Our founder, Professor Harry Keen, was a GP in 1948 during the early days of the NHS. His firsthand experiences of the immediate impact of the NHS inspired him to establish the NHS Support Federation. He witnessed the relief it brought to individuals burdened by financial anxiety and its transformative effect on British medicine.
Join us in our efforts to secure a sustainable future for the NHS. Stay informed by following us on Twitter and Facebook, and sign up for our email newsletters to receive updates on our work. Together, we can ensure that the NHS continues to care for generations to come
