About NI Audit Office
The Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO) is headed by the Comptroller and Auditor General for Northern Ireland (C&AG), and together they play a vital role in ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of public funds. The NIAO provides support to the C&AG in fulfilling their responsibilities and operates independently of the government. The C&AG has the important responsibility of authorizing the release of funds from the Northern Ireland Consolidated Fund, ensuring proper revenue collection, and conducting external audits of central government bodies.
This includes departments, executive agencies, public sector bodies, and health and social care bodies. The results of these audits are reported to the Northern Ireland Assembly. The NIAO also undertakes audits of local government bodies, such as district councils.
Their vision is to achieve independence and excellence in audit, with the ultimate goal of improving public services. The NIAO is led by a Senior Management Team, which is supported by the NIAO Directors. For more information, visit their website
