.ruhr is a regional top-level domain that gives websites a distinct connection to Germany’s Ruhr area. Introduced in 2013, it was the first newly launched domain ending to use a geographical reference, and its addresses went online before those associated with major world cities such as London, Paris and Berlin. The launch also marked the first new domain ending to enter operation in Germany since .de was introduced more than 30 years earlier. Alongside .ruhr, Germany’s domain landscape includes other regional endings, including .berlin, .koeln and .hamburg.

The .ruhr service provides domain names for individuals, businesses and organisations wishing to represent a connection with the region online. Its website offers information about the domain, access to a WHOIS search portal, and links to policies and technical guidance, including the DNSSEC Practice Statement and ICANN WHOIS information. Visitors can also report suspected abuse involving a .RUHR domain through the designated abuse contact. Contact details are provided for general enquiries and support.
