About Proyecto Nicacao
NICACAO is an organization dedicated to strengthening the economic, environmental sustainability, and value chain of cocoa in Nicaragua. Through the NICACAO project, in collaboration with ONUDI, MEFCCA, and funded by the European Union, they aim to enhance the capabilities of small cocoa producers for environmental sustainability and increased productivity in the mining triangle of Siuna, Rosita, and Bonanza. This initiative also involves the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) in other cocoa-producing regions.
By focusing on training and development, NICACAO strives to empower vulnerable populations, particularly women, youth, indigenous, and Afro-descendant communities in rural areas, reducing gender gaps and promoting economic and social empowerment. Their efforts include capacity building, processing improvement, supply chain development, and product traceability.
