The National Identification Agency (NIDA) is a pivotal institution in Rwanda, established by law No. 43/2011 to streamline the civil registration and national population registry. Prior to its official formation, NIDA began as a project approved by the cabinet in 2006, with the objective of enhancing legal identity and rights for all Rwandans.

NIDA focuses on modernizing and integrating vital registration through a secure digital identity information system, ensuring accurate data authentication. The agency aims to provide a legal and unique identity to every individual at any time and place, aligning with its vision of Smart identification to development. NIDA offers services related to civil registration, vital statistics, and identity management, catering to the needs of various stakeholders.
