Nidderdale National Landscape

Nidderdale National Landscape is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heart of Yorkshire, between Harrogate and the surrounding countryside. Its varied scenery includes windswept moorlands, steep river valleys, grasslands, woodlands, reservoirs and historic farmland, with dry stone walls and field barns shaping the landscape. Based in Pateley Bridge, a small, dedicated team works to protect and enhance the area’s natural beauty, wildlife and heritage while serving local communities and visitors.

The organisation helps people discover and enjoy Nidderdale through visitor information, walking and outdoor activity guidance, events, heritage resources and advice on exploring the landscape, including its dark skies and accessible experiences. It also supports conservation and responsible land management through practical guidance and programmes for farmers and landowners, including Farming in Protected Landscapes, Catchment Sensitive Farming, the Sustainable Farming Incentive and woodland creation advice. Its work includes habitat and species initiatives such as curlew conservation, adder monitoring and broader species recovery, alongside climate action and planning resources.
