Nile Valley Collective

Nile Valley Collective is a group of scholars dedicated to studying the ancient cultures of the Nile River Valley and promoting understanding of the region’s African history and cultural connections. Its members bring expertise in art history, ancient history, historical linguistics, philology, archaeology, biological and cultural anthropology, and museum studies. The Collective explores topics including ancient Egypt’s African context, Egyptian origins, the Green Sahara, the rulers of Kush, and cultural affinities across the region.

Alongside research and public events, the group offers educational and cultural advising. Its experts can help people consider how their work relates to social justice and race relations, diversify course syllabi, and develop museum exhibitions that include communities often overlooked in museum settings, including those affected by colonialism. The Collective also encourages scholarship that engages people of African descent and examines the Nile Valley through intercultural perspectives. Through research activity, public engagement, and consultation, it aims to support a more inclusive and socially responsible understanding of the ancient past.
