About Nisei Week Foundation
Nisei Week is a vibrant celebration held in the historic Little Tokyo District of Downtown Los Angeles, aimed at promoting Japanese and Japanese American heritage and traditions. Organized by the Nisei Week Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, the festival fosters connections among diverse communities throughout Southern California. Since its inception in 1934, Nisei Week has grown into one of the longest-running ethnic festivals in the United States, offering a rich array of cultural experiences.
The upcoming festival, scheduled for August 9–17, 2025, will feature numerous engaging events including a Grand Parade, the Coronation and Awards Celebration, cultural exhibits, and the Plaza Festival, culminating in celebrations like the Closing Ceremony and Ondo. The event highlights the contributions of the Nisei generation while expressing gratitude through its 2025 theme, kansha. Nisei Week serves as a gateway to Japanese culture, enriching lives through arts and cultural education while honoring the community's legacy.
