NISL

The National Institute for Sustainable Living, Inc. (NISL) is a nonprofit organization focused on humanitarian support, sustainable living, education, and wellness. Based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, it promotes practical approaches to environmental, human, and economic well-being, guided by its priorities of food, education, employment, wellness, and water. NISL aims to develop Sustainable Living and Development Centers worldwide, where communities can learn and demonstrate approaches such as permaculture, sustainable agriculture, alternative energy, composting, recycling, and low-impact building.

Its programs and initiatives include training in hydroponics, aquaculture, and composting, alongside greenhouse-based production of healthy, locally grown foods. The organization also features projects in vertical growing, water and power solutions, eco-village design, forest preservation, and community education. Through the International Cross Denomination Mission Alliance, NISL supports efforts to address basic needs and create opportunities for service, education, housing, and employment. Its model emphasizes sharing accessible skills and technologies so communities can establish and replicate local centers.
