Northern Ireland Veterinary Specialists (NiVS) is Northern Ireland’s first specialist-led, multidisciplinary small animal veterinary referral hospital. Based just outside Hillsborough, County Down, the centre receives referred cases from general veterinary practitioners across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It works alongside local veterinary teams, extending access to specialist diagnostics, treatments and advanced veterinary care.

NiVS provides referral services in cardiology, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and soft tissue surgery. Its highly qualified team uses specialist facilities and technology to support the assessment and treatment of pets with complex health needs. The hospital also offers advice and continuing professional development opportunities for veterinary professionals, alongside case studies and referral guidance.

For pet owners, NiVS shares information about the referral journey, payment and insurance, local arrangements, and frequently asked questions. The team supports owners seeking updates or information about their pet’s care and can be contacted by phone or email during weekday opening hours.
