The Nickel Plate Road Historical & Technical Society (NKPHTS) is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history of the Nickel Plate Road (NKP), a pivotal American railway that operated from 1881 to 1964. Renowned for its extensive service across Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, the NKP was instrumental in freight transport through its celebrated "Nickel Plate High-Speed Service" and powerful 2-8-4 Berkshire steam locomotives. The NKPHTS offers comprehensive resources, including detailed equipment rosters, employee timetables, and historical archives, as well as guides for modelers interested in recreating this iconic railway.
Members can access exclusive publications, participate in online forums, and attend annual conventions. The Society also features an online store for memorabilia and educational materials. Through community engagement and dedication to historical accuracy, the NKPHTS ensures that the legacy of the Nickel Plate Road continues to inspire future generations of rail enthusiasts and historians alike
