NKRF ble stiftet i 27. oktober 1945 og er en faglig interesseorganisasjon og et kompetanseorgan for revisjon og kontroll av kommunal/offentlig virksomhet. Med begrepet «revisjon og kontroll» mener vi revisjonsvirksomheter og kontrollutvalgssekretariater, og ansatte i disse virksomhetene. NKRF skal fremme en sunn utvikling av revisjon og kontroll med kommunal/offentlig sektor. Vårt samfunnsoppdrag er å bidra til at kommunal/offentlig virksomhet drives i tråd med fellesskapets interesser og verdier. Våre medlemmer er en viktig forutsetning for lokaldemokratiet.
