The National Literacy Directory (NLD) helps people across the United States connect with local literacy and education services. Its directory features more than 10,000 educational agencies, including literacy programs and high school equivalency testing centers, making it easier for learners to find support in their area. Visitors can search for programs by location and distance, or explore options based on their goals, such as improving reading, writing, math, technology, or workforce skills; learning English; supporting a child’s education; or preparing for U.S. citizenship. The site also helps users locate family literacy programs and study for or schedule high school equivalency exams.
Beyond learner resources, the NLD provides information for volunteers, including opportunity listings and guidance on volunteering, as well as resources for program managers seeking to register their programs. The directory offers technical support, news, events, learner stories, and links to partners and affiliates. Visitors can also contact the organization by phone for assistance and subscribe to the Literacy Now newsletter for literacy news.
