About Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries
Nlom, also known as Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries (NLOM), is a renowned brand offering a wide range of exceptional programs and services. Established in 1975 as part of the Nebraska Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, NLOM has become a pillar of outdoor ministry. Based in Ashland, Nebraska, they have a second location called Sullivan Hills Camp, situated near Lodgepole, Nebraska.
NLOM provides various programs to cater to different needs, including camp, conference, and retreat opportunities. Their flagship facility, the Carol Joy Holling Camp, Conference & Retreat Center, spans 317 acres of picturesque rolling hills in Ashland. It welcomes over 1600 campers during the summer months and hosts more than 20,000 retreat guests each year.
Sullivan Hills Camp, with its vast 640-acre expanse, offers a diverse range of activities and adventures for campers and retreat guests, serving 150 campers and several thousand guests annually. At NLOM, their mission is to ensure that everyone feels a sense of belonging and unconditional love from God, regardless of their background or abilities. They are dedicated to developing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility policies to remove barriers and create an open, accepting space for all.
NLOM welcomes individuals from all walks of life and stands firmly against any form of discrimination. The impact of NLOM's programs is significant, as they provide a safe and welcoming introduction to the Christian faith, increase the relevance of faith in daily life, and promote community-building. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, NLOM operates with a commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of those they serve.
With a rich history spanning several decades, NLOM has grown and expanded its offerings. From borrowing camping sites in the early 1960s to the establishment of Circle R Camp in 1964, the organization has continuously evolved. Notable milestones include the opening of Carol Joy Holling Camp in 1979 and Sullivan Hills Camp in 1997.
Over time, NLOM has added new facilities, such as the Resource Center, Swanson Retreat Center, and the New Springs Facilities.
